Salt Bugger – Black and Purple

$11.00

The Salt Bugger is a premium deep water snook fly tied in black and purple on an ultra-sharp Gamakatsu SC15 1/0 hook. A weighted purple brass eye sinks it fast into troughs, channels, and runoffs, while a barred mirror blue tail and brush body create movement and a bold profile in low light or dirty water. Built to dredge — swing it through current or strip it slow — for snook, tarpon, and baby tarpon holding deep.

Why the Salt Bugger Deep Water Snook Fly Gets Eaten

The Salt Bugger deep water snook fly is built for one job — getting down fast and staying in front of fish that never come to the surface. We tied this pattern in black and purple to throw a bold, dredging profile in low light and dirty water. A weighted purple brass eye sinks the fly straight into the strike zone, one to three feet down, where snook, tarpon, and baby tarpon stack up on the bottom. As a result, the Salt Bugger deep water snook fly gets eaten by fish that never look up.

Most flies fish the top of the water column. In fact, this pattern is built to dredge — swung through current, worked down a channel, or stripped slow through a creek or runoff. Therefore, this is the fly you tie on when you know fish are holding deep and you need to get in their face.

One Fly. Built to Dredge.

Unlike patterns designed to fish near the surface, the Salt Bugger produces by working the bottom and mid column. Additionally, it fishes just as well swung on the current in a channel as it does stripped through a creek mouth or runoff.

Premium Hardware: Gamakatsu SC15 1/0 Hook

We tie the Salt Bugger exclusively on the legendary Gamakatsu SC15 1/0 hook. This is the same trusted hardware we use across our entire lineup.

  • Sticky Sharp Point: needle-sharp point drives instantly into hard, bony jaws.
  • Optimal Shank Geometry: keeps the fly riding true through the swing or strip.
  • Unmatched Strength: high-carbon steel resists bending under hard runs from tarpon and snook.

Built in Black and Purple: Movement Designed for Low Light and Dirty Water

  • Barred Mirror Blue Tail: the purple tail with black barring adds a mottled, lifelike silhouette in low light or stained water.
  • Brush Body: pushes water and adds bulk without extra weight.
  • Black and Purple Profile: stands out in dirty water and low light, and also draws strikes on the flats in clear water.

Weighted to Reach the Bottom: Purple Brass Eyes

  • Gets the Fly to Depth: sinks quickly into deep troughs, channels, and runoffs.
  • Dredging Action: creates a jigging motion on the swing or strip.
  • Built for Current: keeps the fly working deep through current without rising.

Effortless to Cast

  • 8 wt. Friendly: enough backbone to punch it into channels and runoffs.
  • Wind-Cutting Profile: cuts through coastal breezes.
  • Accurate Delivery: lands with control and sinks fast.

Target Species

Saltwater Predators — Snook, Tarpon, Baby Tarpon (channels, runoffs, creek mouths, troughs, and current seams where they hold deep).
